Popular Abu Dhabi based spa, BeDashing did the 10 year challenge like nobody else.

They turned 10 years old yesterday and had a huge celebration for its employees and management team. The CEO, Noora Al Tamimi decided to gift a piece of land in Philippines, to two beautiful ladies, Racquelyn and Melody who have been loyal employees of the organisation. The land was presented to them by the Philippines Ambassador to the UAE, H.E. Hjayceelyn M Quintana

How amazing is that? BRB, sending my CV to the BeDashing HR!

The only thing better going to the spa is the spa coming home *wink wink*

I’m not sure if I should be worried, but gone are the days where I enjoyed clubbing on weekends, now it’s more about doing absolutely nothing & relaxing, so what better than a staycation?

I packed my bags and drove down to perhaps the most iconic building in town, the Capital Gate building which is home to the Andaz Capital Gate hotel.

Upon arrival, we were greeted by Sahil who helped us out with the entire check-in process which was really smooth & quick & he later also assisted us towards our room.

A few things in particular that I liked during my stay at the Andaz Capital Gate are as follows

1. Free mini bar – Say whaaaaaa, yes who doesn’t mind a free mini-bar? The alcohol ofcourse isn’t included, but the chocolates, the non alcoholic beverages, nuts etc are all on the house

2. Wine tasting – Andaz clearly knows that no staycation can be complete without a few glasses of wine & they held their own free wine tasting session at the lobby between 5 – 7 #Win

3. The luxury tub – So am not sure what my obsession with fancy tubs is but its definitely something I appreciate during a staycation & Andaz Capital Gate has a nice fancy tub (As seen in the photo below)

4. Lavish breakfast spread – The breakfast options were great & I loved the venue (18 degree) it offers a fabulous view of the city (Also has an outdoor option)

5. Extremely friendly staff – right from the valet guys to the front desk manager, the room service guys to the staff at the spa/pool area – everyone was well trained and friendly – they were also pretty flexible with our check out timings

6. Temperature controlled pool – The winter is at its peak and unfortunately not all pools here in the UAE are temperature controlled so I was really glad that the rooftop pool at Andaz was and thoroughly enjoyed my time by the pool. It would be nice if they did up the rooftop a little more though & maybe added Shisha?

Overall absolutely loved being at the property and would recommend Andaz for a nice week getaway. They also have a SPA located on the 19th floor that currently has a 30% off on their packages.

Once again, it’s that time of the year when you start planning your #TravelGoals for the year & this list shall sure help!

January 1: New Year’s Day
Like many countries, New Year’s Day is a public holiday in the UAE, and one of three secular holidays observed in the country. This year, it falls on a Tuesday, so it won’t be a long weekend.

April 3 (dependent on moon): Isra’a Wal Mi’raj
This holiday marks the night that Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) travelled from Mecca to Jerusalem and ascended to heaven. Isra’a Wal Mi’raj is observed annually on the 27th day of the Islamic month of Rajab, and falls on April 3 in 2019, according to the Hijri calendar. April 3 is a Wednesday, so it is likely that this will be a mid-week day off.

June 3 or 4 (dependent on moon) – Eid Al Fitr
Eid Al Fitr roughly means ‘breaking of the fast’ and is the holiday marking the end of Ramadan. It’s dependent on the sighting of the moon, and automatically begins after the end of Ramadan. We won’t know until closer to the time whether this will fall on Monday June 3 or Tuesday June 4.

August 10 (dependent on moon) – Arafat Day
This holiday marks the second day of the yearly pilgrimage to Haj, and will likely mean a day off. It falls on a Saturday in 2019.

August 11 (dependent on moon) – Eid Al Adha
Honouring Ibrahim’s willingness to sacrifice his son, we typically get three days off for this holiday – so combined with Arafat Day, we’ll likely get Sunday through Tuesday off. This means it could be a five-day weekend in August.

August 31 (dependent on moon) – Hijri, Islamic New Year
Islamic New Year in 2019 is likely to fall on a Saturday – we get one day off for this holiday so we may not get a long weekend.

November 9 (dependent on moon) – Milad Un Nabi
This holiday marks Prophet Muhammad’s (PBUH) birthday, and is celebrated on the 12th day of Rabi Al Awwal, which will fall on November 9 in 2019, subject to moon-sighting. This is a Saturday in 2019, which could mean we’re given Sunday off.

November 30 – Commemoration Day
Formerly referred to as Martyr’s Day, this holiday honours the Emiratis who have died while protecting their country. It falls on a Saturday in2 2019, which means it may be combined with National Day.

December 2 – UAE National Day
2019 will mark the UAE’s 48th birthday, celebrating the unification of the seven emirates in 1971. It falls on a Monday this year, and as we had a two-day holiday on Sunday and Monday for the occasion in 2018, it may be that it’s a four-day weekend again in 2019.

P.S. Islamic holidays are based on the phases of the moon, so exact dates may vary – we’ll keep you updated closer to the time when the official holiday is announced.

A few weeks ago I had a walk through nostalgia when I visited a hotel for a staycation! Mafraq Hotel that’s been around for years now used to be our family go-to hotel during long weekends and it was really exciting to be back here after so many years.

Now this is a great venue if you’re in Abu Dhabi and don’t want to travel all the way to Dubai but at the same time, don’t really want to do a city staycation. It’s a 25-30 minute drive away from Abu Dhabi city.

I would recommend the place particularly for young couples with kids, as there is a nice temperature controlled (perfect for the current weather) pool in there, along with a separate kids and ladies only pool. If you a fancy a drink by the pool, you could order one from their pool side bar. Also just by the pool, at the garden they also serve shisha which could be a great post pool activity!

The rooms are spacious, and I can’t explain this words, but the fragrance/odour in the room was extremely fresh and inviting, I honestly didn’t want to leave my room or bed, for this. They also have quite big balconies that give you a pool side view, however the balconies unfortunately are too close to sneak into the next door balcony.

I didn’t try out the food as such, apart from the lunch and the breakfast buffet, whilst the lunch buffet was slightly limited, I thought the breakfast buffet was satisfying and elaborate.

What works well for Mafraq is it’s extremely reasonable room rates which makes it a value for money staycation, considering its a pretty big property & very kid friendly!

It’s funny how you end up being touristy in your own city when you have friends visiting you.

I wouldn’t say this was my 1st visit to the Sheikh Zayed Mosque however the previous time I went there was for a work based photoshoot where I barely got to walk around & spend time at the magnificent grand mosque and just stop-stare & appreciate its beauty & peacefulness.

They have made the entry to the Grand Mosque far more simpler than what it was previously, you’re able to get yourself an Abaya right at the entrance which makes life way more simpler than what it was earlier & post that they also now provide a shuttle service of sorts to take you to the main point. Trust UAE, to always make life easy.

Obviously this isn’t a review of any sorts but I just thought I should start writing about most places I visit in town whether it’s a review or not.

Let me know in the comments below if you’ve visited the Grand Mosque?

I’m often asked what my favourite brunch place in town is and I’m always confused because I either like the food at a place but not its vibe or just the vibe & not the food but that changed for me, thanks to the Eat Play Laugh brunch which is also now my ‘Friday mantra’ – Eat Play Laugh 😉

The lavish spread boasts of the signature dishes from all the Marriot outlets – The JW Steakhouse, Velocity, Central Grounds and Kuzbara itself (the brunch host restaurant) Apart from this you’ll also find an Indian counter (Kebabs and Chaat) and a massive dessert section which includes cakes, chocolate fountains, ice-creams, freak-shakes etc etc

I personally enjoyed the grills & tandoor kebabs, the most with the dessert section being my 2nd favourite & thanks to the Velocity side of the brunch, I got to have the best chicken wings in town.

Drinks & Vibe

Unfortunately I can’t remember the bar-tenders name but there is a guy who hails from Chennai (India) and he made us some of the best gin based cocktails we have had in a long long time. There is plenty of cocktails to choose from & if that does not make a cut then you could always give the bar-tender the liberty to experiment & create something new for you & trust me you won’t be disappointed.

It was also the 1st time I tried out ‘Frozen Wine’ which has the potential to get one really-really high without realizing (talking by experience, haha)

The vibe is extremely chilled out, the place was packed with a lot of mix crowd & the DJ was great, however I’m not sure why people weren’t dancing as such, because the DJ was definitely doing his job right & I was itching to dance but was holding back & waiting someone else to take the lead.

You also have a life-size jenga, foos-ball board & kinect to fulfill the PLAY aspect of ‘Eat Play & Laugh’ and incase you’re wondering what’s bringing the laughs to you apart from the alcohol, then there’s also a magician at the brunch who is FABULOUS!

Right from the girl who welcomed us with a drink at the entrance, to the chef, to the staff in general, every single person was extremely friendly, well-informed & out there to help – full marks for service!

The Eat Play Laugh brunch has 3 price categories, Eat priced at AED 270 inclusive of soft beverages, Play priced at AED 390 inclusive of house beverages, and Laugh priced at AED 429 inclusive of premium Italian bubblies.

It’s definitely higher than most places in Abu Dhabi, however I genuinely thought it was worth it & found myself talking about it to every single person I met post the brunch!
